The EFSPI Scientific and Training Academy promotes the effective use of established statistical methods in the pharmaceutical industry.

Formerly known as the EFSPI Scientific Committee, the new Academy identifies training needs for statisticians in the pharmaceutical industry and organises online as well as in-person training events and scientific meetings. In addition, the Academy supports national organisations in undertaking such activities.

The Academy currently consists of: Axel-Krebs Brown (Germany, chair), Alexandra James (UK), Anna Wiksten (Switzerland), Daniele Bottigliengo (Italy), Ellie Grainger (UK), Emmanuel Pham (France), Fabio Rigat (UK), Jonas Hagstrom (Sweden) and Pierre Verweij (Netherlands).

The committee meets every month and in 2026 already hosted a three-part webinar series on oncology study designs. Apart from statistical methodology, attention will also be given to the regulatory aspects of a statistician’s job as well as leadership skills. There plans for a face to face training meeting in 2027.
